Overview

The Festival re-discovers and celebrates the old local Currach fishing traditions to pass on to the next generation before they are lost.

​

 

1.30 pm… Opening the Festival at Letter Mullen Heritage Centre with our MC for the day, Ciarán Ó Fatharta, Broadcaster and Producer with RTE Raidió na Gaeltachta.

 

2.00 pm… Walk or Minibus down to the Event site in Callachulam.

 

3.00 pm… Re-enacting the years when Local Fishermen went to the uninhabited Eagle Rock Island, furthest west of Letter Mullen Island, Connemara.

John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Conghaile, local Historian and director of the local Heritage Centre will share some of his rich wealth of knowledge with us.

 

4.00 pm… Local musicians will provide some well-known tunes and songs as well as storytelling from the Fishermen that used to fish of Eagle Rock Island in days gone by.

 

John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Conghaile, local Historian and director of the local Heritage Centre will share some of his rich wealth of knowledge

 

6.00 pm… Returning to the Heritage Center

 

6.30 pm… Food and Refreshments

 

7.30 pm… Séamus Mac Donnacha, broadcaster and producer with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta will tell the story of ‘Recovering the Cargo of the Julia’ a publication written by Dr. John Cunningham.

 

8.30 pm… William Henry, storyteller, historian and writer will launch his new book "Away with the Fairies"

 

9.00 pm… John Bhaba Jeaic Ó Conghaile will present the 2020 Person of the Year award to Páraic Connolly originally from an Trá Bháin in Letter More and a member of the Connolly Clan that played Hurling with distinction for Castlegar and Co. Galway and the 2021 Person of the Year award to Máirtín Chóil Nan a’Pháidín Mac Donnacha from Rath Chairn
